About this Venue
About Oakland,
Oakland Arena is an indoor arena located in Oakland, CA, USA.
From its opening in 1966 until 1996, it was known as the Oakland–Alameda County Coliseum Arena. After a major renovation completed in 1997, the arena was renamed The Arena in Oakland until 2005 and Oracle Arena from 2006 to 2019.
It is often referred to as the Oakland Coliseum Arena as it is located adjacent to Oakland Coliseum.
Oakland Arena seats 19,596 fans for basketball.
The arena was the home of the Golden State Warriors from 1971 to 2019, except the one-year hiatus while the arena was undergoing renovations.
The California Golden Bears of the Pac-10 played the 1997–98 and 1998–99 seasons at the arena while their primary home, Harmon Gym, was being renovated into Haas Pavilion.
For some years before then, the Bears played occasional games against popular non-conference opponents at the arena.
The first crowd filled Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum on September 18, 1966 when the AFL’s Oakland Raiders played the Kansas City Chiefs.
The adjacent arena celebrated its grand opening on November 9, 1966 when the Oakland Seals met the San Diego Gulls for an NHL game.
In the following 48 years, the Oakland-Alameda County Arena and Coliseum Complex has hosted a spectrum of events in both the sporting and entertainment industries including concerts, circus, boxing, rodeos, religious speakers and ice shows.
Audiences numbering nearly 100 million have made Oakland Arena and RingCentral Coliseum the premier sports and entertainment facilities in Northern California.
In October 1995, RingCentral Coliseum began an extensive renovation.
The $120 million project included the addition of 22,000 new seats, 90 luxury suites, two private clubs and two state-of-the-art scoreboards.
Oakland Arena followed in June 1996 with a $100 million renovation.
This project involved the complete demolition and concurrent redesign of the building’s interior.
Capacity was increased by more than 4,000 to a maximum of 19,200 occupancy, plus 72 luxury suites and three exclusive clubs were added.
In 2006, the Golden State Warriors and Oracle Corporation announced a naming agreement, turning the Oakland Arena into the Oracle Arena until 2019.
